About the Conference

The Write Time Teens ‘N Twenties Writers Conference (TNT) reflects its dynamic abbreviation. This inaugural conference brings together authors, agents, editors and publishers from throughout the country to share their vast knowledge with the writers who will chronicle and change the world — authors between the ages of 13 and 30.

Writers conferences are one of the best possible ways for writers to connect to the publishing world. Between workshops, conversations with other authors and discussions with faculty members, writers conferences provide vital networking and social support and encouragement for the often solitary world of writing. You might meet your future editor, publisher or agent!

The conference will open at 9 a. m. with a motivating keynote address by Robert Yehling, author of The Write Time. Following the keynote, participants will head to one of four workshops that will take place in each of four 75-minute sessions. Over the course of this single day, participants will take in presentations that include the secrets of getting published, working with agents, freelance writing, novel building, universalizing personal experiences, songwriting, playwriting, using writing as leadership and service, socially conscious poetry, and crafting a writing career. Workshop facilitators will offer their lifetime of experience and share their love of writing, while providing invaluable tips and materials. During the day, agent Verna Dreisbach will be available for private appointments with young authors who have material ready to be considered for publication.

Participants and faculty are invited to the Post-Conference Meet the Faculty and Book Release Party, from 5 to 7 p.m. Authors Bob Hammel, Bob Yehling and others will sign their books, an open mic will be held, food consumed, along with the official Book Release Party for The Write Time.

TNT – Other Activities

Agent Appointments
We are fortunate to have an outstanding literary agent at the conference — Verna Dreisbach of Dreisbach Literary Management. If you have completed a manuscript, a story synopsis or a proposal, you can set up appointments with our resident literary agents to pitch your work. Be prepared to describe your book, your background and your goals in these private 15-minute conversations—and put the agents’ feedback to use. The appointments are $15.

Post-Conference Meet the Faculty & Book Release Party
Join us for another very valuable part of writing — social networking. All registrants are invited to join the faculty at the Post-Conference Book Release party for The Write Time. Authors Bob Yehling (The Write Time: 366 Exercises to Fulfill Your Writing Life), Bob Hammel (The Bill Cook Story) and others will sign copies of their books. We will also hold an open mic, starring … you!

The Conference Organizers

PEN & PUBLISH, INC.
Pen & Publish, Inc. is a collaborative book publisher. We partner with organizations and authors, agents and readers to provide the benefits of publishing for win-win-win outcomes. Our model is contractually between self and traditional publishing. P & P is flexible with a personal touch, working together from project ideas to agreements to find the ideal fit. We look at each project to determine if we are a good choice to help the author or organization further their objectives.

Organizations
Book publishing lends itself to serving multiple objectives – engaging and educating, bonding and growing community, to development and fundraising. Publishing projects can take numerous forms – collections by students or members, staff and volunteers, to work by an individual founder and even creating a small press for your organization.

When publishing collections by school or organization, we leave student writing and editing to the teachers and staff. We will make suggestions and corrections, but content is determined by the client.

Individuals
With individual authors, we want to make sure the book represents the author well and has a chance to live up to the author’s vision. Does the finished manuscript warrant being published, or should we defer or refer in the best interest of the author? Is the writer ready, willing and able to take on the role of author? In other words, do your homework. Know your objectives and audience, and have a basic idea of how you will help promote your book before seeking any publisher.

We publish a broad range of titles, but always look for essential value. Does the work educate or inform its readers? We’re idealistic! We believe writer and reader and society should benefit from our work together. We want readers to feel confident selecting a Pen & Publish book will always be a good choice.
